About Us:
Larimar Therapeutics (formerly Chondrial Therapeutics), based in the Philadelphia area, is committed to discovering and developing treatments for complex rare diseases, with an initial focus on Friedreich's ataxia. Its proprietary protein replacement therapy platform is intended to deliver missing proteins inside the machinery of cells to treat devastating rare diseases that currently have ineffective or no treatments available.
Position Summary:
The Associate Director, Discovery will be responsible for the design and execution of all activities related to drug discovery. The scientist in this role will report to the VP of Discovery & Non-Clinical R&D and spearhead the design and implementation of the company's research connected to early discovery and pipeline progression.

Responsibilities:
Will include but are not limited to:
• Manage a multidisciplinary discovery biology team supporting multiple activities ranging from target identification and validation and hit identification through clinical candidate selection.
• Oversee activities from the internal research team, external partners and consultants to effectively manage projects lifecycle and support key milestone decisions.
• Ensure high quality data delivery within timelines and provide data interpretation for study reports consistent with current industry and health authority expectations.
• Ensure effective research collaboration with internal and external development teams to support translation of pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic endpoints from discovery studies to regulated toxicology and clinical studies
• Partner effectively and functions as key contact with internal stakeholders (Analytical, CMC, Clinical and Regulatory) to ensure integration of discovery with other company goals.
• Provide input to the leadership team on discovery pipeline progression to support strategic planning and budgeting for novel drug candidates
• Contribute relevant pharmacological sections to regulatory and submission documents as needed.

Education, Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
Requires a Ph.D. in Physiology, Biochemistry or a related field with a minimum of 6-8 years of direct supervisory experience of early discovery programs in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated expertise managing internal discovery projects in a matrixed environment, with experience in biotherapeutics development preferred. Demonstrated ability to assist with the design, execution and troubleshooting of experiments across a variety of platforms and strong knowledge of the entire drug development process is also required. Excellent interpersonal communication skills are essential to effectively communicate the needs of the company's programs to external collaborators as well as different stakeholders within the company.
